Combines Rotor belt

How tough a crop are you harvestingIJ Are you tensioning the belt correctlyIJ Are you using only lithium based grease on the torque sensing unitIJ If your machine is a 98 or 99 the dimension given in the operator's manual to adjust the belt tension to is too tight. The correct dimension is in the 2000 2388 operators manual or your dealer will have a service bulletin NHE SB 39.1 98 that outlines the procedure. It is a little known fact that the book is wrong. You may want to check the hub on the separator drive pulley. I've had them break but still stay together. Early '98 production 2388's missed the heat treat on this part. Hope this helps.

Another thing that often gets overlooked is rotor drive pulley alignment. lay a straight edge along the drive pulley and make sure that it is parallel to the driven pulley. This is a real killer on rotor belt life.

Re Rotor Belt, A modification done here in Western Australia involves throwing away both the drive pulleys and the rotor belt and replacing them with a six section pulley on each end and two 3rib b section belts. This gives the rotor a fixed speed only adjustible via the three speed gearbox, which works fine for our conditions and results in a increase in capacity and the end of rotor belt breakages.
