Combines chopper spread pattern

Our 465 spreads the soybean "straw" about 28 feet wide. Any wider would interfear (I never learned how to spell) with cutting the next swath. We spent only a few minutes adjusting the spreader vanes. I do not remember if the book gives a good description on how to adjust them or not. Is is not to difficult any how. By the way our straw chopper chopped up an aluminum softball bat this fall. The bat came out in two by three inch bits. There was no damage to the combine that we could find. In fact the spread pattern was fairly even also.

I don't know why our machine is not spreading wide enough. We have the chopper on high speed and have the vanes set to their maximum width.

If you want to increase your chopper spread pattern ,try adding some extentions to your spreader vanes, making them about the same length as a Deere spreader vane.I bolted a 8inch long metal extention on the outer 2 vanes on each side of the chopper and it now spreads across the full width of cut.
