TORONTO ? The Ontario Trucking Association's Livestock Transporters' Division (OTA-LTD) has set out to raise truck driver training and livestock-handling standards for all transporters across the province and ultimately, they said, the country.

The OTA-LTD is aiming for an industry-wide adoption of a transport training program in 2012 ? one that they would like considered by supply chain stakeholders to be a requirement for transporting livestock.

Randy Scott, LTD Chairman, said ?Today, fewer drivers who grew up with animals are entering the industry. Ongoing training is necessary to give new drivers the skills to do the best job possible while more experienced drivers also benefit by freshening up their knowledge of the most current standards.
