HOT PRICES ON SMALL EQUIPMENT

Very nice farm auction last Thursday in Peotone, IL (northeast Illinois),a sale by my friends at Richard A. Olson Auction & Real Estate. Check out what the JD 709 rotary mower and the JD 155 blade sold for:

JD 709 7' rotary mower: $2,750

JD 155 blade: $3,800

2002 JD 7830 MFWD tractor with 1638 hours: $93,000

1997 JD 7810 2WD tractor with 2402 hours: $75,500

2003 JD 9450 combine with 1824 engine hours: $78,000

2003 JD 925F grain table: $17,000

2003 JD 693 6-row corn head: $20,500

1999 Brent 674 grain cart: $20,000

2001 Peterbilt 378 semi with 208K miles: $66,000

2011 Wilson 34' aluminum grain trailer: $34,500Those are just a few sale price highlights from Thursday's Illinois sale. $2,750 for the JD 709 rotary mower...that is the highest auction sale price I've seen since a December 10, 1998 auction in north-central Iowa where a BRAND NEW JD 709 sold for $3,300. Auctioneer Erik Olson relayed to me they had TONS of interest in the equipment on this auction. The 2001 Peterbilt 378 semi went to a buyer from Pennsylvania with a bidder from New York being runner up. Erik said one winning bidder from northeast Iowa had this comment:
"There isn't any good clean equipment with low hours in our area for the "common" farmer. Most of the equipment in our part of the country is either for large operations and too expensive or is too old, beat-up with high hours. It is rare to find an auction with this type of equipment for the common 1K-3K acre farmer."
Bingo.
