The fate of a $200-million Canadian Wheat Board contingency fund is very much up in the air, even though the grain marketing agency is potentially only weeks away from a massive transformation.

Outgoing CWB directors have said the federal government has told them to leave the fund alone rather than distribute it to farmers. The directors have publicly objected to a plan that they say will see the federal government use that cash to help fund the transition of the wheat board into a new independent entity.
