From The Land, A great farm paper n NSW Australia

A factory-standard CLAAS Lexion 770 combine harvester with Terra Trac hydro-pneumatic suspension threshed its way to a brand new Guinness world record in September, snaffling up a massive 675 tonnes of wheat in just eight hours.

Not content with that, the record-breaking Lexion 770 TT with a 12m Vario cutterbar went on to harvest a total of 1362 tonnes from 130ha in 19 hours continuous work using around 11 percent less fuel than the previous 2008 world record.

The productivity of the CLAAS combine was officially recognised on the eve of this year’s Agritechnica Machinery Expo in Hanover when a representative of Guinness World Records handed over official certification to the family company’s owners.

Guinness records official representative Jack Brockbank presented the record breaking certificate to company patriarch Helmut Claas' daughter Cathrina Claas-Mühlhäuser and the 13-man world record team.

A CLAAS statement said today that the record-breaking attempt was completed under the close supervision of a Guinness World Records jury.

The company says from 9.45am on September 1, until 6.30am on September 2 – exactly 19.2 working hours with some small breaks – the Lexion was in continuous operation on a farm in the English county of Lincolnshire.

The CLAAS Lexion 770 – with its straw chopper activated – had harvested exactly 675.84 tonnes with 22.5 percent greater throughput and smashed the eight-hour record of 551.6 tonnes set by a competitor in 2008. That was 124.24 tonnes more over the same period.

The record breaking Lexion 770 + Terra Trac has an engine output of 431 kW (586hp),a CLAAS APS Hybrid threshing system and was equipped with CEMOS driver assistance, GPS Pilot automatic steering and Cruise Pilot throughput control.

The two world record combine ‘pilots,’ Jens Broer and Christian Meckmann, were able to maintain optimum settings for the machine in all threshing conditions,” according to CLAAS.

After a short break from the eight hour world record, the team continued until the next morning. In doing so, during the morning and evening hours, the machine had to battle grain moisture levels of up to 18 percent.

“At 6.34 am, after more than 19 hours work, they took stock.

The Lexion had threshed almost 130 ha of wheat and harvested a massive volume of approximately 1,362 tonnes of wheat.

Very impressive indeed. Now if we just could get a decent dealer network going in Canada I'd be all over one of these. Dealers are far and few between out here. It is the #1 factor holding many of us back from switching to Claas.

They did a great job training the BTO's on buying Cat equipment, but never spent anytime on the guys who buy the 2 year old combine. Resale values at auction are hit and miss.

BTO stands for Big Time Operator. The big 10,000 acre farmers or hutterite colonies etc...

We are lucky we do have a great dealer in our area, there has been a huge influx of lexion combines in our area, we have a smaller 460 and do like it , one neighbor this fall traded a 590 and a 580 on a pair of 770 they are a nice machine but then so are the JD's.. in our neck of the woods we need to be way over sized in the combine department so we do see lots of smaller farms with big machines.
