no the walker bearings should not be that loose. you want a little up and down so they dont bind but what you got is alittle more than it should be. you should be useing non-clay type grease for the walker bearings. ask your john deere dealer about it thats where you can get it. i am a jd service tech and i have replaced several sets of these bearings and this is what i use when putting them back together.

Our 9500 with 1900 sep. hrs. is on the original walker bearings. We use the recommended grease but more often (almost daily).

yes if the correct grease is used and they are greased reguarly they will last. the part number for the grease is ty6341 this is a non-clay high temp grease. but if the aluminum bearings are just getting bad and you change them noe it will save you alot of money because you might be able to save the walker cranks now. if you wait you will have to replace them and you are lookigin at about 900.00 to 1100.00 more and thats doing the work yourself.
