Combines Australian Wheat Outlook

Down here in southern NSW we have just completed the sowing of canola and hope to finish the wheat this week after 25 mils of rain on the weekend.

West of Griffith we have had about 20 millimetres in the last week and are mid-way through sowing cereals. lupins were in just prior to the rain and are just coming out of the ground. Some more rain next week would be outstanding. Hope you guys up north have some decent rains to speak of in the near future to get crops in the ground, best of luck.

Similar story to you pedro out here in the Maranoa. Except we didn't get the rain at Easter. Virtually had no rain since Feb_early march. Some guys have deep planted chickpeas, but are going down as far as eight inches to get into decent moisture. Most aren't game to try cereals at that depth. The zero-till country does have good moister at depth (ie 4 to 6 inches) below surface but its just a case of getting to it through a very hard layer, plus any spray wheel track are a bit of a write off. Its starting to look like we're going to miss our second winter crop in two years! Not good at all. Been pretty hard to sit by and watch all the southern guys clean up on those high prices and not do a darn thing about it. Knowing our luck the dollar will be up around 65cents and the oversea's subsides will have kicked in nicely to bring the market right back by the time we get back online next year. Who'd be a farmer huh!
