The best thing to do to the pump is not "turn it up" but put in a torque capsul. That will make the pump a lOT more sensitive and hold it in max fuel longer in the rpm band and you won't burn any more fuel. The guys that have them love-em. I was under the impression that a torque capsule works well in a tractor but makes little difference in a combine. I agree that the governor needs to be set as sensitive as possible. Ours lopes a bit when it starts up, then smooths out after a minute.

Torque capsul helps but the best thing to do is to have the timing advanced to pre-EPA specs. Had this done last year and it's like a new machine. Not only more power, but runs cooler and uses less fuel.
