There was an update to put stiffer seals in the FRONT edge of the shoe to prevent this. Also adding the upper seals as in late model units is simple and will help. Dealers should have the upgrade sheets.

Talked to dealer and he did not have upgrade sheets. Sent me R42 part number sheets but they are the same for both the R40 and the R42. R42 shows additional seals on the sides and the back. I assume these are the upper seals. I haven't looked at the combine yet but I assume I will need to drill holes to mount the seals. If possible does anyone have the part number for the stiffer seal. Also, since I'm in the combine are there stiffer seals for the sides.

FE 864 - 71357161 was the first kit - discontinued - some dealer might have in stock.IJ. later R42 kit was 71368442 early fan ducts were prone to crack. Pull the shoe and check this area also. Again late R42-R55 staionary seals that draped over the moving seals are a must.
