Combines Newer flex head on an 1984 l3

We put a 500 series head from an R52 on a 1984 M3 so the procedures to put one on an l3 should be similar. What we did cut out the top of the R feederhouse hookup and modified it to hang on the M3 and then welded it back in place on the head. This was definitely a scary exercise to get all the angles and spacing right but we did it by hanging the mount on the M3 and nosing it into the hole in the head and then welding back in. some tin work to the hole to match the combine-not too bad as the header had a number of tin parts that could be removed to enlarge the hole mounted a hydraulic pump from a junk head on the header to run the reel- powered from the right side combine shaft slight modification to the left side header drive shaft to align it with the left side combine shaft. we used a direct coupler, perhaps would have been easier to use a short pto shaft. header height control was compatible, three spring system, we only had to extend wiring to get to the right side of the combine

Thanks so much for the info, was starting to wonder if anyone had tried it or not. Doesn't seem that very many people use the old l's or M's any more.
