Combines whine on hydro

Just from what I have found out on this site that all series 2 machines had a split drive hydro as an upgrade change(starting in 1996) made a lot more noise than the older style hydro but were would produce more torque. Maybe some one with more knowledge than I could tell you more as I have never been by the two versions to compare.

The split hydro units seem to whine a lot more than the old one-piece units. CIH has always used a split unit and I've noticed they whine terribly. Makes me wonder if that's why the new Gleaners will have the pump in the engine compartment - to keep cab noise levels down. Or perhaps just to simplify the combine. Tom langan

I was told by dealer that the change was made to help servicing as each part could be handled by one person easier. I had ones before the change and a '97 R72 now with the split one and the noise is at least double that of the early ones.
