Combines 480 vs 470

In corn, I've always felt if a 470 would take 8-30's at 6 mph, then a 480 would take 12-30's at 6 mph.

last fall we went from 925jd to a 30ft flexdraper on a 9600, did nothing different. We were able to increase spead and push 5' more. % wise, who knows mabe from 4.5mph to 5.2 mph plus 5ft. That would be close to a 15% increase in speed and a 20% increase in width. That adds up to a 35% increase but I would bet it's closer to 25% increase.

Performance will be similar with each operating an 830 corn head, despite the 50hp difference between the 470 (290hp) and 470R (340hp). The 470 has the same power as the 460R. Both, the 470 and 470R were capable of operating with 12-row corn heads too, that's where the 470R's power shines. I watched a 470R with a 1230 whoop up on a CR970 with a 1230 pretty bad during a demo a couple year's back and the farmer owned the CR970. The 470R, with 30 less ponies, managed to do a more consistent_better job running against the CR970, and always seemed to be ahead of the CR970. Each model has been replaced by a 560R and 570R_575R.

Cutter, with the numerous updates to the 470R. Were the updates substantial enough for you to overlook a 470IJ There are some 470 out there with low hours that are a fairly attractive price. Is there any reason not to own a plain 470IJ Or should a guy look only at the 470RIJ
