Pink Ladies ride a success

The Pink Ladies Ride for a Cure was a success, said key organizer Tammy Hammersley, after the group did a drive for raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Over 200 people attended the banquet at Canad Inns as people celebrated the Pink Ladies' efforts to raise the awareness.

"All I can say is wow. I didn't expect this to be a huge year because the lack of snow took away from our event but the banquet last night was amazing," said Hammersley. The support from the community was tremendous. It was truly amazing (some of the work that was done)."

The event received a ton of support from the community and its sponsors. Hammersley said that the event couldn't have been a success without the support of the community.

The ladies began their drive down to St. Claude for lunch for 1:00 p.m. and returned to Portage by about 4:30 p.m. where the banquet continued at 6 p.m.

Through it all, the Pink Ladies event raised more than $26,000 for breast cancer research, said Hammersley, and the draws haven't been tabulated to add to the totals. What's more, the 70 women who participated had to raise a minimum of $150.

Good for them to keep going even though there wasn't enough snow for the sleds.

If they would have waited one more week they would have had snow - have the most we've had all year.
