2008 CaseIH 8010 combine with 1855 engine hours sold for $152,500 on northwest Wisconsin farm sale yesterday - 8/29/2012

2 VERY NICE AUCTIONS YESTERDAY
I was down at the 2012 Farm Progress Show in Boone, IA yesterday (August 28th). Fun day at the show. Got home last night and went to work on a pair of very nice farm auctions I had my eye on yesterday, one in northwest Wisconsin by Northern Investment Inc., the other farm auction was in west-central Minnesota by Henslin Auctions Inc. Here are a few sale price highlights from the northwest Wisconsin farm auction:

2007 JD 8530 MFWD tractor with 3423 hours, IVT, ILS: $164,000
2008 JD 9420 4WD tractor with 3469 hours: $124,000
2012 JD 4730 sprayer with 2 hours, NEW, 800 Gal, 90': $230,000
2008 CaseIH 8010 combine with 1855 engine hours: $152,500

All the rest of the sale prices from both sales entered into our "auction results" database, we're now up over 316,100 sale prices in there :) Let's take a closer look at the 2008 CaseIH 8010 Combine sold for $152,500 on yesterday's northwest Wisconsin farm auction...here are the last (4) 2008 CaseIH 8010's I've seen sold at auction:

6/29/12 consignment auction east-central MO: 1409 engine hours, sold $155,000
8/2/12 consignment auction northeast IL: 1018 engine hours, sold $150,000
8/6/12 consignment auction southeast MO: 1126 engine hours, sold $121,000
8/28/12 farm auction west-central MN: 1855 engine hours, sold $152,500

Ok, key thing to chew on here is the TYPE OF AUCTION each one sold at. See how the first (3) 2008 model 8010's sold on consignment auctions? These were very, very LARGE auctions with a VERY HIGH NO. of Combines on each sale. Now compare the higher hour 2008 CaseIH 8010 sold on yesterday's FARM AUCTION in west-central Minnesota for $152,500. Given those higher hours, a MUCH STRONGER sale price. In our "auction results" database our users can click on any sale price and up pops a complete sale price report from that auction which also TELLS YOU WHAT TYPE OF AUCTION IT WAS: FARM/CONSIGNMENT/DEALER. Over my nearly 23 years of tracking & compiling all this auction sale price data the TYPE of auction has obviously always played a very important factor in final sale price. What I've been noticing developing here in just the last month is an increasing sale price spread based on TYPE OF AUCTION.....specifically on COMBINES. They are still bringing solid "in line" $$ when selling on farm retirement or farm estate auctions, whereas as I've seen weaker sale prices on big consignment and/or dealer auctions here the past month. I am NOT noticing this sale price spread with good used Tractors. Doesn't matter so much what type of auction they've been selling on, still bringing premium $$'s at auction.

I will continue to monitor the used equipment market on a day by day basis and work to determine & highlight developing trends. If you stay on top of these trends I think you've empowered yourself to beat the competition when it comes to buying/selling/trading used equipment. Keep more of that $$ in your wallet....where it belongs :)

Oh, that west-central Minnesota farm auction yesterday (August 28, 2012)...check out what the Tractors sold for:

1978 JD 4240 with 3452 hours, quad range: $32,000
1989 JD 4455 2WD with 3310 hours, quad range: $56,500
1994 JD 8770 4WD with 3537 hours: $68,500
1972 JD 4320 with 9911 hours (engine overhaul at 9000 hrs): $14,000

I posted a pic of the 1978 JD 4240 sold for $32,000 on our Machinery Pete Facebook page this morning...she's a real honey :)
