Back in May, RealAgriculture.com?s Shaun Haney asked David Morgan, Syngenta?s North America region director, ?When will Syngenta get into the Canola business?? The answer, it appears, is now.

Syngenta Canada announced today the launch of SY4135, a Roundup Ready canola variety. This one variety officially marks the company?s entry in to the Canadian canola seed market.

Syngenta?s Duane Johnson, commercial unit head for Western Canada, says that while this announcement is only about one canola variety, the company is working on evaluating several sources of germplasm for its next lines. Offering a canola variety means Syngenta can now offer growers the complete package, from genetics to seed care and treatments, to in-crop protection, Johnson says. SY4135, he adds, will be sold with the Helix Vibrance seed treatment package.

Seed supplies are slated to be available in late 2013 for the 2014 growing season. As of now, Syngenta has not yet finalized its distribution network for its canola seed business.
