JD 4440 tractor with 5333 hours sold for $42,000 on south-central Wisconsin estate auction Thursday - 10/26/2012

JD 4440 $42K & JD 4020 $24K THURSDAY
Wow, what a sale Thursday in Janesville, WI, a farm estate sale for Ray Ryan, a well known & respected guy. Check out these prices:

JD 4440 tractor, 5333 hours, PS: $42,000
JD 4020 tractor, late model, diesel, PS, side conole, 8823 hours: $24,000

I just talked with auctioneer Ryan George of George Auction Service and Real Estate. Kind of neat, Ryan told me that Ray Ryan actually worked for many years at George Auction Service sales and that he (Ryan George) was actually named after Ray Ryan whose estate sale this was. Ryan told me on the JD 4020 he still had (6) bidders in at $15,000. After selling the 4020 for $24,000 the 4440 was up next....Ryan said he (jokingly) told the auction crowd, "Ok, let's start the bidding right where we left off at $24K."....boom, a bid then another....$42K for the JD 4440.

The interesting thing to me is the NO. OF HOURS on the 4020 & 4440. 8823 hours on the 4020 and 5333 hours on the 4440. This is surely more hard proof of the RISING VALUE buyers are placing on CONDITION of older used Tractors (all types of used farm equipment really)....even if a tractor has higher hours, if it is in really, really nice condition, well cared for, shedded....look at how much they can sell for. $42,000 is the highest auction sale price I've seen on a JD 4440 since the famous March 6, 2009 farm estate auction in Hamilton, IL where the farmer had struck oil back in early '80's and had negotiated with a Texas oil company to buy him a new line of JD farm equipment, including (3) 1982 JD 4440's.....then he barely used them for 27 years. So on sale day the 4440 with only 47 actual hours wound up selling for $58,000, the other (2) 4440's sold for $51,000 (692 hours) and $43,000 (1843 hours).

...LOT of really nice looking farm auctions coming up in November across the country...think we're queueing up for another round of hot year-end bidding (TAX BUYERS).....stay tuned.
