2810 is a bit fast. It should be 2740 +or- 10rpm. No comment on the turning it up thing. That can get ugly quick.

We had a 1480 that ran at 2850 for years. When the engine finally needed an overhaul, it was due to corrosion of a sleeve, not anything speed related. If it's run fine since '88, I'd leave well enough alone. I don't think I'd turn the power screw on a high houred engine.

This is only going to be my third year on it. The dealer said the enging was overhauled a couple of years before I bought it. That's why I'm worried that the settings aren't right.

aw go ahead turn up the old beast and take the muffler off and let her roar next to a green neighbor! he'll say you're crazy but he'll really be jealous. naw, better not.
