Clean and tightIJ Good! Now take a hand held voltage meter and touch the red lead to the output stud on alternator, the black lead to ground (engine off). I doubt you have much of a reading IF the batteries are not being charged (less than 12). If no reading, charge wire from this stud is broken or mouse chewed between alternator and batteries. This can ruin an otherwise good alternator too because the alternator would be operating on "open circuit". See what battery voltage is (engine off) then start engine, throttle up to 1500, no accessories on, and perform the same test you did on the battery voltage with engine off. Battery voltage shall increase to about 14 I'd say. If not, sometimes on Delco alternators, the twin wires that plug in to spade terminals of alternator have been hot or just lose their fit and may have corrosion too.
