Combines TR70 with Cat Questions

When you say changing bearings on the engine do you mean the main and rod bearings in the engineIJ If so I would advise you to compare the cost of this carefully. The 3208 CAT is a pretty good engine but it is what you might call a throw away. That is to say it is usually much cheaper to buy a remanufactured engine and turn yours in for a core than to do any internal repairs. There are many large diesel engine rebuilders who do a very good job and some offer warrentees on their rebuilts. When it comes to engine parts on that combine you will find CAT parts are outragously priced, much more than Ford_NH or even Deere parts. If that combine has a roller kit installed in the concaves remove them and install all the fine cross wires for use with small seeds. Some people in corn_bean areas use the roller kit and do not bother with installing the small cross wires for use with small grains. This works pretty well for wheat but will not close up the spaces enough for small seeds like clovers, alfalfa, grass seed. Other than that run the rotors fast and squeeze the rotor concave clearance tight. You can get operators manuals from your New Holland dealer.
