Combines jd 105 cutting height

The benefit to running it all through the combine is that you don't have to go back to cut the stubble. It saves time. The trade-off is that the more material you have going through the combine, especially a JD 105, the harder it will be to keep straw out of the grain sample. You will also start to have grain being carried out with the straw. We grow and feed speltz and find that they are harder to keep straw out of the clean grain than with wheat. This is due to the larger grain hull size and therefore, the larger sieve and chaffer spacing needed to catch all of the grain. I would recommend cutting as low as possible, while keeping the grain sample clean as acceptable to you. Experiment with it. With the combine, you can also cut above any green weed or plant material better than with the haybine. You'd like to keep as much green material out of your straw as possible to avoid heating.
