    Finicky eaters

So long as they are developing correctly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They'll probably grow out of it in a few years time.

    Kitchen Waste for Pot Compost

It doesn't matter if it's organic, unless that's something you're aiming for. I don't put meat, bones, or cheese in my compost, but I add most other kitchen scraps.

    Harrow for ATV

Have you looked into getting a multi-purpose tine harrow? They're great for breaking up heavy soil and require little to no maintenance. You can do a lot with them.

    Your most embarrassing moment?

That would've embarrassed me too, @Almost Eden. However, I would've found it charmingly funny had I overheard such a thing. What did your in-laws say? Mine happened decades ago at a work function when I dropped a crystal punch bowl on the floor. The bowl shattered and several colleagues...

    Planting after pig rotation

It's been some time since we raised hogs, but we usually planted alfalfa and orchard grass when it was time for them to move to another paddock.

Guinea hens prefer trees to coop

Maybe that's just how it is then. I worry that they'll get frostbite on cold winter nights outside since we're in the Midwest, but it's possible that the frigid temps will motivate them to head into their coop.

USDA Awards $12 Million in Record-Breaking Farm to School Grants, Releases New Data Showing Expansion of Farm to School Efforts

Yeah, I'm not sure how useful it will be considering that COVID is still wrecking havoc in many of our schools and the vaccine isn't approved yet for very young children. I like the idea of connecting farmers with their local schools, but it seems foolish to expand it when things are so precarious.

Guinea hens prefer trees to coop

They free-range during the day, but at night I'd like them to go into their coop. I'd also like them to use their nesting boxes, which they usually do, but sometimes I find a stray egg here and there around the property. I'm wondering if I have their coop too close to the chickens. They have...

    Rainwater storage systems

We have a pond and I use buckets and barrels to capture rain. We also have a well. That's about it. We are getting up in years and it's amazing how efficient rain storage has gotten since we first started out.

    Politics Over The Virus

I'm like GrowPro, I do see it covered on the news, but I basically stick to CNN and my local paper because I just want the facts, so maybe other sources aren't digging into it that I don't know about. I find some things lacking. I know there's a lot about the virus that we don't know about...

    Alternative farming methods

Do you think hydroponics would help in this situation? It would take less space and should use less water in the long run. I wish I knew the answer to the problem.

    Where are my hens?

They're probably just hiding and will be back before you know it. That's bizarre that she thought you meant for her to fetch them from the coop. If I thought "help yourself" meant that, I'd text back, "I will wait until your home." Jeez.

    Retiring?

Have you considered when you'll call it a day and retire from farming? Do you have children who will take it over or will you sell it off? My husband and I are dealing with this now. We've already cut down considerably on our operation because we just can't handle it anymore. Our children...

    Staying safe while handling cattle.

Those are all good points to consider, FarmEnthusiast. I've always been amazed by how much a cow weighs. They look so tiny from the road when I'm driving out to them.

    Taking care of fruit trees

If they're already fully grown trees they should be fine, but if they're young trees they might need some protection from the wind and snow. I wouldn't start cutting on the tree now though. It could leave a wound exposed to the cold and it might encourage the tree to wake from democracy and...

    Farming Blogs

There wasn't an internet back in my heyday of farming strictly for income, or I definitely would have created a blog as a way to connect with potential customers. It seems like a cheap way to advertise.

What do you do for fun?

I like to read and knit. I don't think these old bones could handle whitewater rafting, but I bet it's a ton of fun. Just be careful, will ya?

    Anything you won't cultivate?

I will grow anything so long as it's economical. From the examples of a radish and a carrot I think the OP means one seed = one thing to eat. I don't think you can eat radish or carrot tops, but maybe you can. And you can't harvest them more than once like you can with a tomato plant or fruit...

    Anyone knit?

I learned how to knit the old-fashioned way, but I'm trying to master the German style so that I can knit quicker. I keep having a problem with keeping the tension the same. Any tips for getting this down?

    Dicamba Woes

I thought the EPA approved two over-the-top products with dicamba in it. Has that changed? It seems to me that the weeds and pests simply evolve and become tolerant of whatever we use to kill them.
