Have phones ended walkie-talkies on farm?

I can only see a reason to use them if you've got bad cell phone reception in your area. I'm sure places like that still exist.

    Name that plant

That is hilarious, @GrowPro! I've been fooled by silk flowers before, so don't feel too bad. Thanks for letting us know. I was curious about it too.

    Stops bleeding?

Yes! Thank you so much! My friend cut her hen's nails and got too close to the quick. I couldn't remember the name of that stick that would help stop the bleeding. I'll let her know. Thanks again, RichZ!

    Setting up stand for EBT

I think you need to get a permit from the FNS first. I believe you can apply online. You'll also need the proper equipment to process the payment, but it's fairly easy and affordable if you're selling at a farmers market. Here's some info about that.

    Chili, cocoa and family

That sounds like a cozy way to spend the evening. Add smores and I'd say it's the perfect.plan. I hope you guys have a lovely time.

    Stops bleeding?

I can't remember the name of the product for the life of me. It helps stop the bleeding should you accidentally nick an animal. It's also safe for humans. I'm not talking about that powder stuff. I find it messy and don't believe it works as well as the other product. Do you guys know what...

Do you believe in ghosts, UFOs, or anything weird?

My husband likes to watch paranormal shows, so I watch them too, but they sometimes creep me out. I believe the shows are fake, but I'm not ready to rule out the possibility of paranormal activity being real to some degree. I don't believe in little green men, or Bigfoot, or anything like...

    Name that plant

I don't mind at all, Almost Eden. I think it's sweet of you to include me. @GrowPro, it could be a blood lily. Yes, they're bulbs, but when you have several of them together, they look like a bush. It could also be wisteria, which is beautiful, but also on the invasive list in many states...

    Intercropping

I think most people do some intercropping at home, but they just don't think of that way. I intercropped some of my flowers so that the more expensive flowers are protected by the cheaper flowers. I also usually plant shallow-rooted vegetables with deep-rooted vegetables to make the most of my...

    Leaves changing

Our leaves have started changing a bit too, but I think it's mostly due to the lack of rain in California. It's been dreadfully hot this summer, so I say bring on fall.

    Thrifty pet care tips

I use cheap cat food, like Purina's Cat Chow, as treats. My cats love Temptations, but they're not exactly healthy for them and they cost a ton if you use a lot. Cat Chow is somewhat healthier, and my cats love it almost as much as Temptations. So I made the switch. They still eat their...

    Drill with rechargeable battery

I still use an 18-volt Milwaukee that I bought years ago. It's somewhat heavier than what you can find on the market today, but this thing is a beast! The battery still lasts for ages. Look into their line of drills.

Secretaries Haaland and Vilsack Announce Implementation of New Pay Initiatives for Wildland Firefighters

From what I've seen on the news, these men and women are putting their lives at risk. I'm glad to hear that they're getting pay bump as needed.

    Tomato tips

I produced my first crop of organic tomatoes this year, and it's definitely been a learning experience. One of the things I've learned is that the fruit will taste sweeter if you water the plant less. That's my tip. Let's hear yours.

    Do you name them?

The topic about old tractors really hit me a strong dose of nostalgia. If you name yours, what have you called them over the years? My grandfather called his Bucky, Bucky 1, Bucky 2, and on. I haven't named my tractor, but I call my golf carts Statler and Waldorf. You?

    Old tractors

My grandfather had one. He felt like it was the tractor's proper burial ground after all those years of service. He couldn't bear to scrap it and wouldn't have gotten much for it anyway. So, whenever I see a tractor sitting out like that, I figure there's a story behind it.

    Summer favorites

Homemade ice cream is my favorite treat when it gets hot. I've tried to make popsicles, but they never come out right. They're more like a brick of flavored ice than anything else. I've never found a great recipe for popsicles.

    Getting flats/packs/crates back from customers

I go through a lot of them too, but I always have more supplies coming in from other nurseries and labs. If you buy them in bulk, the costs should be fairly negligible in the grand scheme of things. If I were you, I would just factor in the cost of supplies when you're setting your prices next...

Biden-Harris Administration Invests $307 Million in Rural Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements in 34 States and Puerto Rico

I'm glad to hear about this! It's about time that our government started focusing on this problem! There are rural places in Alabama, where the water is contaminated with hookworms. I read about it in Modern Farmer magazine.

    Locally foraged salad

If you feel comfortable identifying the proper plants, you could always pick your own. Just don't pick dandelions and other edibles from a site that could be contaminated. Picking them from your yard is fine, but picking them from the side of the road is not. You should be able to forage...
