In my experience it usually will but not always, I have one that two thirds has grown back OK but the other third does it's own thing, grows and then breaks off again. All good fun,should be older enough to know when to keep my fingers out of the way by now.

I have heard of an egg doing the trick but never pepper. I will second the Barrs leaks, does the trick but it is better to get the rad fixed ASAP before you cause more trouble.

Do need to be cautious, have just purchased a Ford 3000 which some one has restored and decided should be positive earth, not a problem but took a while to get my head round. In this case both where black wires, but definitely red for positive which ever way you decide to connect it .
