lower the planter and spread the outer part of clutch open a bit and put a spot of paint or chalk across the two pieces of the clutch.  Then plant a couple hundred feet and look again-are they still lined upIJ  If so then the chain is skipping-if not then the clutch.  I rebuilt the clutch on mine last year-not that bad of a job-took a day-could do it again in 3-4 hours.  Parts from shoup are cheap.  Get it fixed-those problems only get worse.  Go to johndeereparts.com and print out the exploded picture of the clutch-will help a lot-or better yet a tech manual.
