Combines Spirals

I use an air hammer or chisel to knock out the pins. Some will not come out and you will have to use a torch. I replace mine about every 2-3 years and still they are stuck. Try to figure out which way the pins were driven in. The larger end has a small groove on the side. When putting new pins in I just drive the one end in so it is just flush with the spiral so I know which way to drive it out next time. I've never have had a pin come out. Pin will need to be snug, though. Once pins are out, move the guide to the side in front of the spiral by taking out one of the bolts and loosening the other so you have room for the spiral to come off the shaft. Then use same hammer to drive the spiral off. They should come off without too much trouble.

Thanks Silver Bullet. We tore into one of the spirals before I made the post and, after reading your post, realized we were trying to go the wrong way with the pins. Once we got the pins out, the spiral came off rather easy. Thanks again...
