Combines reel adjustments

There are fine adustment bolts on each end of the reel, with the cutter bar raised clear up to its top flex point adjust the reel so it clears by an inch to inch and a half.

You may also have to trim down by a couple of inches, the very outer edge of the conveyor auger flight, right at the outer ends of the flight at both ends. This is to prevent the reel end disc and arms striking the auger flight when you pull the reel right back to just before the reel fingers strike the auger flight. We actually made a mini pickup reel using the standard reel arms and etc but cutting the end discs and the spider arms down [ we just cut the spider arms through and overlapped and welded them together again ] to a diameter where the fingers just cleared the central tube at the top of their rotation. Changed the drive sprocket to give about the same peripheral speed as the standard pickup reel. We could get right back over the cutter bar with the reel and sweep the light crops into the conveyor auger with this set up. Worked well but really spun at speed when motoring along.

Sounds like you run the reel at a pretty fast rate if I am understanding what you are saying. What about shattering at a higher rate of speed. Thanks for any and all help. Dean

look under hyper mods tab, go to headers and install the suction hose. works great.

We changed drive sprockets and set the mini reel speed so that the fingers were moving and rotating at the same speeds as on the standard reel. But because of the much smaller diameter of the mini-reel, the revs per minute of the reel were a lot higher at the same combine ground speed. Because the fingers are still travelling at the same speed as the standard reel, we did not have any problems that were different to the standard reel. The wear rate is a lot higher due to the faster rotational speeds and the standard reel diameter is better in the taller crops. Try tbrans hose across the front of the header. It works very well in some crops but is a non-goer in other crops.
