Needs to be black pipe. The galvanized ones that I have seen have a larger O.D. at each end and this will not let it fit into cylinder bore. local plumbing shops should have the black ones, as Farm Supply stores usually carry the galvanized ones.(You also would not want the galvanizing to flake off and go back to valve stack.
