Combines old combine to sprayer

A number of the older Case and JD cotton pickers have been quite successfully converted to self propelled sprayers in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland in Australia. Cotton pickers with their high ground clearance, large diameter wheels and general chassis design are probably better suited to the conversion than combines. The case versions need a gearbox ratio change to keep within the acceptable ground speed range. The first conversions of [ JD ] combines to sprayers here in Australia were back in the late 1970's on a very large corporate owned grain farm that was going to be the model that showed the rest of the world how it should be done. There were two combines converted. They were both written off when a couple of young over testosteroned cowboys played chicken at speed while on the final run down the field. I think one of them was killed in this case. Yep! the farm went broke and took down one of the largest and longest operating english owned pastoral companies in Australia.
