first do not assume the gauges are set correct. Follow the leveling process, Set the the concave to 0 the cyl bar should hit the top concave evenly across - if not pull down as tight as possible - below 0 and if that does not work shorten the pull rods on top of the grate - may have to remove the jam nuts - then set index to "0". THen measure the front of the grate - should be 7_16" use bottom eye bolts for this - then set mid min max indicators to 'mid' . There is a bulletin on spacers for bars on CDF's to increase capcity if needed. By all means do try various settings on the separator grate - find the setting best for your conditions - it makes a big difference.
