Combines duals vrs flotation tires

I have run my TR-96 with duals in mud and I thought the extra flotation in my situation was quite beneficial. My combine has 30.5x32 tires at 120" centres and I had spacers made and mounted 18.4x38 tires as duals at 180" centres. I was straight combining with a 24' head so clearance to the adjacent crop was not an issue. I doubt that you would be real happy with this setup with a 6 row corn head especially assuming that you are on 30" rows. I think in mud the dual would destroy the adjacent row and even when it is dry the dual would tend to knock corn ears off the plants. However that is just a guess, as in corn I have not run with the duals. You also need to consider that duals are not recommended by the company and you should be quite careful not to stress the final drives unduly.
