Depends what you call float. If you are wanting the cutterbar to float while the skids are in contact with the ground (eg direct harvesting peas with crop lifters) here are a couple of tips. Put a tee join in the hyd line to the lift rams and fit a small diameter hyd pipe. Run this line into the cab and fit a pressure guage on to it in a place where you can see it easily while harvesting. The guage needs to cope with full hyd pressure of around 2500 psi. You can then monitor ground pressure as it is the inverse of the hyd pressure. On our TF44 we fitted a fourth accumulator (bought 2nd hand from a wreckers) and this gives us a considerably greater float range. It took us some time to understand the how the TF44 float system as the instruction manual explanation is easy to follow only by those who already know the answers. The above twwo modifications has increased our confidence greatly and we now direct harvest peas with crop lifters at speeds around 10 km_hr. And our ground is stoney.
