If you bypass the electronics, you can at least tell if the problem is in mechanics or electronics. look in manual for this. cheapest way to test black box is to find another combine, on a kind dealer's lot, your neighbors, or a junkyard one, and switch out the box. you could have a problem with the speed sensors that feed the black box, so I wouldn't buy the box just yet.

if it is the box I recommend getting a reconditioned on, they work fine, last as long and are cheaper.
