There is very good interest in the machinery sharing concept. You can all look at www.machinerylink.com for more details and the "producerlink" newsletter is also there. We have only worked with a few Canadian harvesters. It seems we can get better utilization of combines by bringing them back from ND, or MT wheat after August and putting them into two months of fall crops in NE, IA, Il, IN etc. This gives us more run time on the combines with a full fall harvest, and also means less overall transportation distance and no border problems. Eventually the program will continue to expand. Producers report a wide range of savings, up to crazy numbers like 30% to 50%. Realistically, even if there were no savings over ownership, there are still advantages of more family time, having new technology delivered shortly before harvest, little or no cost for breakdowns, access to bigger machines which may help with a timely harvest or covering more acres or diversified crops. It just makes good sense to use big combines and tractors more hours, especially during their early life. The technology changes and depreciation beyond warranty is to great otherwise. Also, your shop can then be used for more productive projects in the winter months, beside combine storage. Check out the web page or call Ml at 800-713-5618. Serious producers need to be prepared to pay 50% of the contract a few months in advance of delivery date. PS' Please keep your artic clippers up there. This past two weeks have been a burrrrger here in IN. AGV
