To make it spread wider just loosen them up and point them out. look at the slots on the tailboard. On the ones that go to the left adjust them all the way left, same for the right. You can also raise the tailboard to get the trash more airborne which helps to spread it more as well. Again just loosen the bolts on either side and push up on the tailboard as far as you can.
