Combines Another STS capacity question

you guys should come to Germany and see how a 9880 is going trough wheat and making 60 to 70 tonns a hour. We start cutting with 20% moisture an up to 3 foot tall straw.Any questions about CapasityIJIJ our Walkers (9660WTS) are able to make 35 tons a hour. if a Combine Works in Europe ,it will play with your stuff over there.

What kind of a comment is that "if a combine works in Europe it will play with your stuff over there." This coming from someone in a country where we have states that are bigger then your entire country. Over here where the REAl FARMS are it is not about tonnes per hour it is about acres in a day or for you Europeans it would be Hectares. If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything. How big are your fields we have some that are a thousand acres or more that is one field. And we have a few fields like that so don't tell me about if it works in europe crap. How many 500 plus Horsepower tractors do you have over there. Oh and what about 60 foot no till air drills. I suppose every second farmer has one for all those big fields over their. You keep getting your big subsidies everyone knows that is the only way you european farmers can survive. So keep making your no brainer comments see how far it gets you on this site.

Reasons like this make me feel terrible when I say "proud to be American." Honestly, you should know better than to even think these comments, let alone open your mouth and remove all doubt. I am from Ohio, and I would love to talk combines. Regardless if it's about yellow, red, or green and definitely regardless of whatever country it's in. I really feel sorry that you have not opened your eyes to the rest of the world. Next time, please think before you offend half the world over. That's all I have. crbiner I would request that your message be deleted.

look I was just upset about his comment about how if a piece of equipment "works" in Europe it is good enough for the rest of us poor saps. I feel that our farming technology is as far advanced as Europe's is. I will close with this comment where do you think Deere sells more new combines Europe or North AmericaIJ I don't know the answer but I would be willing to wager North America has more new combines purchased then Europe.

I think he was referring to the harvest conditions they operate in most of the time. Very very heavey straw and somewhat damp and green conditions can make for a tough harvest. I would almost venture a guess that some "small" fields over there would have twice the amount of straw, plant, MOG or whatever you want to call it compared to the average per acre amount here in the US.

I'll take that wager. There are numerous smaller farms in Europe, and you can still buy smaller class III and class IV combines over there as well. In total number of units sold, I'd bet Europe outsells North America. like you, I could be wrong also. I don't believe 9880STS meant to belittle North American farmers or technology in any way. What he was merely stating was that, in Europe, it isn't unusual to be combining in tough, wet conditions; - conditions in which we, as North American farmers, would never consider to exist. If a piece of equipment passes the test in europe, then it IS more than suitable for North America.

Big Al you do not have to defend yourself 9880 came across like a smart jerk there is a lot of conditons in North America that equal there tough straw. Hell I combined wheat at 29% and 4 ft tall straw and 280bu 35% corn. Does that make me any better than the Europeans or my machines better I dont think so.

News Flash!!! Just because it does or doesn't work in the USA is no indication of a technology's ability!!! Nor for that matter, if it holds more grain in its bin or needs a fuel tanker on stanby 24 hrs a day to keep fuel up to its motor. This is by no means a benchmark as to whether it is more advanced, more efficent, better technology. Different country_terrain_climatic conditions different requirements. For example a lot of people will NOT TOUCH Canadian or U.S. Tillage machinery in Australia because it is too light and flimsy for our conditions, and appart from the 820 frames on the flexicoils, they are pretty backward in design... particularlly your tine assemblies. US Combines have to have different spec gearbox's to harvest in Australia. (I know this from driving a '96 spec 9600 in Australia and then got into a '96 spec 9600 in Canada and was repeatedly checking that it wasn't in 1st gear. As it had 3 mile less in 2nd gear. Personally if I could get a well designed and effecient combine with a 30 - 40ft head that could match a class 6_7 combine in seporating capacity with only class 4 engine size, fuel use, bin size overal weight.... let me at it!!!

By my calculations,65 tons an hour is close to 2400 bushel an hour. In 100 bushel wheat that is 24 acres an hour. A 36 foot header traveling at 5.5 mph at 100% efficiency can do that. It is possible but hard for us to imagine with our yields at 40 bu. acre.

Here's a fact for you Big Al, Even though we have tiny fields and a 250hp tractor is considered big,the UK alone harvested 20 millions tonnes of wheat in 2004. Now considering as you so kindly put it you could probably put 5 UK's into the state of Manitoba,Canada harvested 25 million tonnes of wheat, not a great deal of difference!!!!!!!!
