Combines Auto header controlIJ on JD 7700

I ran a 7700 a couple of years ago that had the dealer installed DAM on it. It did have an accumulator on it as well. last year I upgraded to a 6620 but it only had header control, not DAM and also no accumulator. last weekend I installed a wiring harness and switch on the 6620 to convert it to DAM and was also curious about whether I needed the accumulator or not. Yesterday I spoke with an ex JD mechanic that has worked with the combines quite a bit and he said that the accumulator would probably not be necessary since I'm running a rather small header. (653A row head) After doing some research online, it appears to me that the accumulator would be more beneficial for the large heavy heads to cusion the shock in the lines created during header adjustment. I think if a guy just screws in the adjustment some to slow down the raise and drop rate as much as you can afford that will help. At least that's what I'm going to try! Good luck with your 7700. I sorta miss that old girl. That 404 turbo was the best running engine I've ever run.

Thanks I really appreciate the information. I am putting a 216 flex head on it and am going to try it without the accumulator. Hope your wiring works out good for you.
