Combines clutch shaft

sounds like the torque sensing failed. It is my guess it was the RH side and you have a late model l2. There is a grease fitting on the outer sheave that is imperitive that it be greased. What happened is the belt slipped, then grabbed, and it popped the shaft. If you look close you will probably find the pivot shaft is bent back as well. Just from experience and a reminder to all to grease the torque sensor on the main clutch shaft. And no, all shafts are the same as the bearings are the same size. Different shafts for different sn's. Some torque sensors had a snap ring that was not real reliable and the upgrade is the threaded hub that replaced it. A failure in this area will cause this problem as well.

I have always greased that zerk on the outer sheave. My guess is that it broke where it is welded to the pipe that goes through the middle of the combine. The combine was not in heavy material but just running. I had one break in my l2 4 years ago that ran for 18 years. This one broke on my l3 that I bought at a farm sale last March. I guess my feeling is that there is only so many turns on that shaft before it breaks. Also the pivot shaft is not bent.

the new agco main shafts have a longer plug welded in hollow center shaft and we have never had to replace the new style for breaking again, tbran is right pack cylinder vs with at least a tube of grease or until u see grease on the side of combine
