Combines Converting to 134

I have depressurized my system down to almost zero and installed R134 fittings. I then added 8oz of PEG oil along with about 2.5 cans of R134 until the return hose is cold. I have done this to two of my trucks and three tractors with no problems. As long as you do not let any air in the system you should be alright. Air contains moisture that will freeze in your system, the reason you pull a vacuum on the system is to "boil off" the water in the system.

I swiched all my R12 and 134A to Red Tek freon it mixes with both and you dont have to pull a vaccum. It cools much better than 134.

I agree use a hydrocarbon based freon. 134 is expensive this year and Red Tek or Duracool do not take any retroing. These artificial shortages of 134 that show up every year or two are really maddening. I would pull a vacuum though if the system is empty. Air in the system raises pressures and like said before vacuuming reduces the moisture in the system.
