Combines corn header speed

agr671, You need to install speed up sprockets located in chain case on both ends of cornhead. Right now you have 16T drive sprockets. We replace them with aftermarket hardened bored to size 20T sprockets.(AGCO offers 18T but that is not quite fast enough if you are able to run over 5mph)The last sprockets we ordered were around $70ea. Compare your spirals to new ones. We replaced the spirals in 2007 and left the knives. The difference was unbelievable. The back of the spiral gets worn and won't feed the stalks into the knives. The spirals were pricey but were worth it to me.

We rebuilt ours in 06 with everything except spirals and could not run over 5 mph. Put the spirals on next year and increase ground speed to 7 mph. like you, did not think they looked wore out.

I run my spirals around 400 acres per row. New ones make a BIG difference!

I bought my last spirals a couple of years ago. $25.00 each seems closeIJIJIJIJ I've had a couple of machine shops look at rebuilding them and they said it would cost as much or more to rebuild than buy new. I would like to try to hard surface the edge of new ones, though.

last year $110-120 a piece one is bigger than the other. Prices were supposed to come down but haven't checked lately. The price is why I want to be certain this will fix my problem.
