I have a large natural pond that I'm considering stocking with bass for fishing. I want this to be as efficient as possible, so I'm not having to do a lot with it. What other fish should I add? Would crawfish be an asset?
I don't know whether they'd benefit the ecosystem of your pond, but if you have the right market for it, raising crawfish can net a tidy profit. It's worth checking out.
That's a good point about the crawfish, @Smarty Plants. I don't live in Louisiana, but maybe there's a market for them outside of that area. It couldn't hurt to check.
Bass fishing makes it easy to get into the sport. Since they are aggressive predatory fish, they are easy to catch. I think that bluegills and catfish can be stocked together with largemouth bass.
