Hey Greenbean, How come some of you guys shell corn at such high moisture IJ Do you dry it. Isn't gas kind of expensive this year IJ I'm thinking about going back to drying next year because of lodging.

We dry corn here to gain time , and to preserve yield. I guess I am not familar with not drying corn. Everyone I know drys corn, The elavators all have dryers, farmers either have dryers or drying bins. How dry is dry , by your standardsIJ Anything below 25 is go time here. Most bigger farms start at 30.

I do my beans first. When I am finished with them, I will start on my corn. It will be around 15%. That is the standard that any elevator I deliver the stuff to uses and probably yours too. I haven't bought drier fuel in well over ten years and I can't imagine the money hungry system you must be saddled with. GS

Greenbean, We use to dry corn several years ago, would start at 23-24%.Then everyone started to wait till it got to 20%. They figured with the extra weight they were getting at 20% they would break even with drying costs, so they haul straight to the elevator out of the field. Most people around here don't have grain bins or dryers.I am fortunate in that I do, I had an old shivvers but I updated it this year so it will keep up a little better. Next year I'll probably start at 23-24% so I can stay ahead of lodging.

Some years we have a lot of problems with european and southwestern corn borer and diseases. If we wait till 15% some fields are on the ground. Bt corn helps with the corn borers but not with the diseases. I'm in SEMO. We start shelling corn in august, beans in late sept. or oct.

I use regent and never plant BT corn at all. You can use it on all your acres without any refuge. I have just as much borer and rootworm as anyone and this will fix that and eliminate seedling bugs like wireworm which got so bad here that I finally had to come to this. GS

I use capture infurrow when I plant for root worms, wire worms, etc. When and how do you apply regent IJ What state are you in IJ

SW Ia. loess hill dirt which is light clay. Capture will help on the seedling insects but not for the borers and rootworms. GS
