Well, Mark, I'll try to give you a "laundry list" on these models and may not include everything but here it goes. First, some general things. The IH 1400 Series Axial-Flows were built from 1977 through 1984, when IH's ag division was sold to Case, a division of Tenneco at the time. Case did make a "CaseIH 1400 Series" in 1985, although there are not a lot of them around(most of us would rather forget the state of the ag economy back then, hence the few that were built). The 1440-60-80 models were built all during these years, while the 1420 appeared in 1980 or so. As far as propulsion, they all used a 3-speed transmission coupled with hydrostatic drive. Now the 1460 and 80 used the same 3-speed gearbox, while the 20s and 40s used their own 3-speed. Electric-Over-Hydraulics were introduced in 1981 models with the exception of the 1420, which used them from the beginning in 1980. As far as individual specs., I'll try to list them. 1480- From 1978-1980 they used a DT-436 at 190HP, from 1981-1985 they had a DT-466 at 210HP. 1983-on models used a Bosch inline injection pump instead of the rotary pump used previously. The grain tank held 208 bushels. Corn heads were available from 4RW through 8RW, grain heads up to 30'. 1460- All during their production they used a DT-436 at 170HP. Grain tank held 180 bushel. Corn heads were available from 4RN through 8RN. Grain heads up to 24'. 1440- All during their production they used a D-436 at 135HP. Grain tank held 145 bushel. Corn heads were available from 4RN through 6RW(although most people would not mount that big a head on a 40 model). Grain heads up to 24'. 1420- All during their production they used a D-358 engine. Early ones were 112HP, later ones were 124HP. Grain tank held 125bushel. Corn heads were available from 4RN through 6RN(although most people think a 6-row head is too much for a 20 model). Grain heads were up to 20'. Well, I hope this gives you the 1400 series in a nutshell. Good luck!

1420-1979-86. 124hp-125bus tank,124hp early with no electric head. Hydrostat, 4 rw corn 13-20 grain. 1440-1977-86.135hp-145bus tank, hydro 4-6row,13-24 grain.Early models no electric header but can be adapted. 1460-1977-86. 170 hp-180bus tank,13-24 grain,6 row corn. A popular one in its time and still is. 1480-1978-86 210hp,208bus tank,13-30 grain.4-6-8 row corn. Most 60s and 80s are electric over hyd. Just bought a 1440 as a replacment for a 715. If this ones as good as last it will be a great one.
