How do you keep the water from freezing when it's below zero at night? I'm talking about the water for the animals to drink. We had this problem last year so we are looking for new ways to be proactive.

We use electric heated water buckets.

It must have been tough for you last year since animals' water needs increase over winter. A simple method I have used before is to group water troughs. You can also (partially) enclose the water tank in a well-insulated shed.

Put some vodka in it. Vodka doesn't freeze! :D

The poor mans solution is to find a way to keep the water moving. Ponds freeze faster than rivers, for example.

If you're using a hydrant for water supply there is a device called a dribble float that keeps water seeping so it doesn't freeze. Downside to this is the tank will overflow and cause a mud hole, but the tank doesn't freeze over.
