I wouldn't worry about the inner workings of the machine too much. Will it be idealIJ No, but you can probably keep it full enough to get along fine. The physical size of the 80 is more of a concern. I think the machine will fit in 4 38" rows with the 30.5's dished in, but it will be tight. I guess measure the offset in the rims on the one you are looking at and see what width it will get down to and if you can live with it. Of course you will need to have the ladder flipped up or maybe even take it off somehowIJ

You also might consider using a 6row-38" corn head. You might find one fairly cheap.

Have you looked in eastern IowaIJ I have seen some on dealers lots, and one privately along the road. I don't know hours or condition. I run a 1460 with 24.5x32s. It is close with a 438 head. If it got muddy I would think a 1480 could run over alot of corn.
