Combines POP NOISE FROM EXHAUST ON M2

the obvious one would be that you have a burnt ex. valve but I had a 2900 motor that sounded this way and it was a self locking tappet adjustment screw that decided to start turning. the fact that it is worst at idle suggests the former, unfortunately.

I have seen it on motors that have been worked on in the past such as head replacements and that sort of thing. This motor had a head cracking problem. I blame burning valves on this engine as poor machining_cheap parts. of course 30 years old and anything is possible. You should be able to hear a burnt valve's compression release when cranking.
