Combines Red reliability

One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was trading off a low houred 1680 on a 2188. From unloading auger, to computers, to hydraulics, to rotary air screen it's been 100 times more problematic in 750 hours than the 1680 was at over 800 when I traded. CIH hasn't been very supportive either. Just thursday she popped a head off 1 of 4 bolts that fasten the main hydraulic pump together. What a mess! My .02

I think all colors have their problems, especially for what you pay for them. We had a very late model 1460 that you could almost rely on fixing daily. We traded up to 21 series and have been very pleased. After 3 seasons we have had one hydraulic hose go bad in all that time and a few other minor things. Not too bad if you ask me. I think anything with wheels on it is going to have a lemon once in awhile. How the dealer and company supports you with problems is the main concern. I feel that CIH's merger is only going to make the company support worse from what I have seen. This leaves it up to finding a dealership that will pick up the support that the company once helped to handle.

Sounds like this 2388 had a bad lemon. I didn't have any problems with 2188s and 2388's. In fact, this year, I haven't had any downtime on the 2388s except for a busted rotor belt, and a few other minor usual weardown parts I never had experienced any radiator plug ups or heating ups. You can always expect all makes to have a bad lemon on some machines. I have seen a custom cutter that had a high houred 2388 that always ran into problems while another custom cutter with a high houred 2388 had no problems at all. I guess it just all comes down to how well you take care of the machines. I have neigbors with 9600's and the same things happen above. Some ran like a baby, while others ran like trouble. I'm sure if you had tried another 2388 that would please you very well. You shouldn't be discouraged just because one model preformed badly. I always look at the whole picture; say for 10 same models, one or two of those 10 would be trouble. like I am saying up above, I've had very good luck with my 2188s and 2388s, and by the way, I've traded again for 2001 2388s. Hope this helps.
