Combines Sunnybrook cyclinder in a 480

Hi We run Sunnybrook in a 480, hoped it would actually help output as we only have 400hp. I would stand up and say it does everything it says on the tin! Uses less diesel, runs smoother, and has a greater flywheel effect, when you are running hard the drum speed does not vary as much as OEM. Now this is very interesting, but maybe not remotely relevent to you, as we are in UK, with higher moisture content harvesting. In our conditions 400 hp is left wanting at times, we have not had a power shortage since fitting the Sunnybrook. We run 2 machines and the second will have one in by next season.

Thanks for the comments. Hope to have the Sunnybrook in tomorrow and running. We have the 480, not the 480R, so we are only running 365 hp. Our straw is fairly tough this year and we are running out of power in the canola(big crop). Straight cutting wheat with a draper header at 22% moisture was not a problem. Hopefully we will see what happens tomorrow.

Hi Don't think you'll be dissapointed. Where are you atIJ How much extra output can you get out of a straight cut draper compared to auger headerIJ we are looking to either buy a Honey-Bee or build one for our conditions. Will move the knife forward 24" and put 55" drapers in behind it. Tim

We live in western Canada, the province of Alberta. Keep getting small showers lately every few days, so not much combining is getting done. We never had an auger header on the 480, so we have nothing to compare with, but the draper head sure feeds the combine evenly, and can go quite a bit longer at night than a flex header with an auger. Your idea sounds interesting! Why would you want or need 55" drapersIJ We are having trouble with the idler and drive belt on the cylinder not running smoothly. Any ideas on what could be causing thisIJ The belts seem in good condition. Peter

Hi Hope the harvest gets wrapped up soon, you have a better weather forecast this week I think! The reason for 55" drapers is that we have very bulky crops here, fall sown canola can get to 7 feet high! So when it gets knocked over with a knife there is still a lot to get up the front. also a 55" belt will reach infront of the reel so any shedding will drop on canvas, not on the ground. The usual cause of vibration on the cylinder drive is a flat spot on the belt, caused by a plug in the past. Sometimes it cannot even be seen. Otherwise, was there any paint on the cylinder flange when you bolted the stub shaft to itIJ if it was not removed it can interfere with true shaft alignment.A tiny bit can cause a problem. Where are you in AB, Calgary end or EdmontonIJ

About 100 miles NW of Edmonton, and yes the weather is a whole lot nicer here now. The vibration was a slight worn spot on the threshing belt--runs smooth now. Thanks for the help. Do you straight cut your canolaIJ We have with polish varieties, but we swath all the argentine varieties that we grow now (and they are not 7' tall :) Happy harvesting, or are you finishedIJ
