Combines Toromont Cat

The last I spoke to a (construction equipment) rep at Toromont, he stated that they had decided not to pursue the Ag line in Ontario. Their salesman for tracked tractors has quit Toromont and is now working for a John Deere dealer. This rep also told me that CAT expected Toromont to segregate the Ag line from construction and build "stand-alone" dealerships, and that this was the determining factor for Toromont to stay out of the Agricultural equipment business in Ontario.

I was hoping someone from Cat or Agco might have insight whether Hewits from Quebec would take the area or there was a posting at another sight saying a large Cat dealer in the US. would take any unclaimed area. I quess I was looking to confirm that rumour. Thanks

All I can tell you is that my 2nd cousin (the Massey dealer) was approached by his AGCO territory manager to take-on the Challenger line alongside his Massey franchise, but he would have had to drop the Hesston, AGCO tractor and New Idea lines beforehand. He couldn't see any benefit of selling Challengers over any other AGCO brand, so he declined. At this point it seems that Challenger has no takers in Ontario, but I'm sure this will probably change; - someone will take the Challenger line on.
