Had the same problem with a 1440 for two years so fitted a sealed alternator and burnt that out twice, so looked eles were for a problem and it was a relay on the right hand side of the cab gone. It was a three spade one wired to the amp light and found it was not needed so rewired the alternator with out it , I know some one eles who had the same problem that was also the relay . Before it went the first time it had done 15 years on it original hope this helps ,olly (uk)

My 1460's alternator was replaced with a Delco 105 amp unit the year I got it. It was not supplied with a screen. It failed that first year and I had it rebuilt. I then got the proper screen from the Agco Allis dealer and it has run fine for 4 seasons since. I do blow it out both ways with the air gun every time I clean the engine (usually every second day during harvesting).
